This course teaches the skills necessary to safely stern a big canoe - voyageur, Langley - for the Club, a school or other organisation. The main section of the course covers the Paddle Canada Intermediate Leader curriculum, which is intended for people who will be sterning a big canoe with no other skilled paddlers on board. The focus is on management of the crew; clear instructions and paddling skills that manoeuvre the canoe safely and accurately.

The second day covers the same ground with added skills for those who wish to challenge the RCABC Leader course. This course includes manoeuvres that require the bow and other paddlers in the boat to take part in moving the canoe, turns at speed and switching while in motion.

Depending on numbers, the course will be taught using a variety of different big canoes at the Club. As the course involves repeated rescue sessions (everyone must lead a rescue), a wet suit or dry suit for this part of the course is advised.

Prerequisites - you must have taken the basic tandem canoe course; for the RCABC certification, you must also have the basic solo canoe course and preferably the Advanced Tandem course.

Cost is $100, payable to the Club.
