RESTART the GORGE!
On Sunday, August 15th, three dozen paddlers, both members of Victoria Canoe & Kayak Club and other paddlers throughout Victoria and from Vancouver, came together or an afternoon of tandem and single 9.5 km small boat races, and a fun 3.5 km recreational class course. All courses started at the VCKC clubhouse, and paddled the Upper Gorge Waterway and Portage Inlet.
We had solo and tandem canoes, single and tandem kayaks, single and tandem SUPs, MC1s, MC2s, OC1s & OC2s, and a surfski.
The fee for one or both races is $20. The fee for the recreational paddle is $10. The total funds raised were $700.
VCKC covered the complete cost of the event, so all proceeds from the registration fee - $700 - were donated to the Victoria Native Friendship Centre.

All race proceeds were donated to the Victoria Native Friendship Centre. The Victoria Native Friendship Centre has been in operation since August 1969 and serves the Indigenous communities of Southern Vancouver Island. VCKC member and Victoria photographer Dennis Shouldice had his cameras in action at Restart the Gorge! He has compiled this video of all three events: the Tandem race, the Fun paddle, and the Solo race. Enjoy!
