Club Day Trip Paddle - Juan de Fuca, Pedder and Becher Bay

  • 02 Feb 2020
  • Meet at the Clubhouse 8:30am

A Club flatwater trip is planned for Sunday, February 2nd 2020. This trip is for paddlers who have taken the basic courses*, have done some paddling since then, and are comfortable on the water. It will be a full day trip, including the driving, probably 4 hours or so on the water. * Basic Lakewater tandem canoe course or Intro kayak course

A trip on the Strait of Juan de Fuca is planned - Pedder Bay to Becher Bay or Becher Bay to Whiffen Spit are both nice trips. The current wind forecasts are not promising; if they are the same on the weekend, a different route will be chosen.

Bring food and drink for the day - no cafes, pubs or restaurants en route - as well as a complete change of clothing in a waterproof container - just in case. Dress for the forecast weather - likely wet, and below 10C, but not below freezing.

If you have a VHF radio and or charts of the area, bring them along.

All boats must have the equipment specified by Transport Canada in the Safe Boating Guide - PFD/Lifejacket with a whistle or other sound-makingn device; a 15m heaving line, plus a bailer or pump. Club rules require a spare paddle per boat and, for canoes, painters at bow and stern.

Meet at the Clubhouse at 08.30 to pick up equipment and arrange ride-sharing.

If you need to borrow a Club canoe or kayak, contact the Canoe Program director canoe@vckc.ca or kayakbooking@vckc.com

If you need a partner for a tandem canoe, we will do our best to find you one, but can't guaratnee this.

Please let me know by Friday evening (Jan 31st) if you plan to take part.

If you have any questions, you can e-mail me at 3135thom@islandnet.com or call 250-812-3799.
